How to get your CPCS Card

Health, Safety & Environment test (HS & E)

You need to have passed the HS & E test some time within the past two years to show you have a suitable awareness of health and safety.

CTUK offer HS&E tests for £45 and exam times are available outside of work hours.

Basic training

Take part in a basic training course at our training centre to gain sufficient experience in your chosen area of plant training.

Book your technical test

Once your plant training is complete you will need to undertake a written and a practical exam which are included in all our courses.

We are here to support and guide you through the entire process and will be happy to help in any area of your training.

Upon passing the exams you will be awarded with a Red Trained Operator Card.

Obtain an NVQ or SVQ

If you want to progress your trainng further you can enroll in a relevant NVQ or SVQ course to gain futher training in the plant category you operate.

In order to progress to a Blue Competant Operator card you must do this within 2 years of obtaining your red card.

On completing your NVQ or SVQ you may apply for your CPCS Competant Operator Card.

Next steps

You will need to renew your Blue Card every 5 years to ensure your skills are kept fresh and up to date.

To renew your Blue CPCS Card you need to:

  • Pass the HS&E test (within the last 2 years)
  • Pass the renewal test modules for the categories you wish to renew

You will also need to achieve one of the following:

  • Recording at least 300 hours per category in your log book
  • Completing an on-site assessment
  • Completing a practical test
